Welcoming the Next Generation of Education Leaders at SOE Orientation 2026

A new academic journey began at the School of Education (SOE), LUMS, as the incoming Class of 2028 came together for SOE Orientation 2026 on August 21 and 22. Designed to welcome students into the SOE community, the two-day programme offered an introduction to their academic journey, the people and services that will support them, and the opportunities available to them at LUMS.

The programme opened with a welcome address by Dr. Jessica Albrent, followed by student and faculty introductions that gave the incoming cohort an opportunity to meet one another and begin building connections within the School. Dr. Sadaf Latafat then introduced students to the MPhil programme, providing an overview of the academic experience and expectations ahead.

Students continued the day with Efficiency and Collaboration, led by Dr. Mariam Haider, Associate Professor of Practice. The session explored effective approaches to working and learning together. An interactive Leadership Workshop, facilitated by Ghazi Taimoor, encouraged students to reflect on leadership, communication, and personal development.

The programme also featured Academic Skills and Integrity, led by Ms. Sannia Hussain, Adjunct Faculty, which introduced students to the skills and principles essential to their academic journey at LUMS. A Student Council Session provided insight into student representation and opportunities for engagement within the SOE community. The day concluded with a campus tour, allowing students to explore LUMS and familiarise themselves with the spaces and resources that will form part of their university experience.

The orientation continued on August 22 with sessions focused on helping students navigate the academic, administrative, and support structures available at SOE and LUMS. Students were introduced to the SOE Administration team, including the Professional Education Office, represented by Ms. Faryal Shahid and Ms. Ghalia Ahmed. A session led by Ms. Abeeha Ahmad introduced students to SOE’s placement and career support, highlighting resources available to help them plan for their professional journeys. The Marketing, Admissions and Student Affairs Office, represented by Ms. Sarah Mahmood and Ms. Fajr Iftikhar, introduced students to the range of support, engagement, and student affairs services available throughout their time at SOE. This was followed by an Office of Academics Session, led by Shah Mahmood Khan, and an Advisement Session, led by Ms. Fizza Suhail, which provided guidance on academic planning and advisement.

Students also attended an RO Information Session, followed by an LMS and IST Information Session, helping them familiarise themselves with key university systems, processes, and technology resources. A Library Information Session introduced students to the resources and services available to support their academic work, while an Academic Accommodations Session highlighted the support available to facilitate an inclusive and effective learning experience.

The two-day programme concluded with Campus Conversations on Harassment Awareness, providing students with an important introduction to fostering a respectful, safe, and inclusive campus environment.

Across both days, SOE Orientation 2026 brought together students, faculty, staff, and student representatives to create a welcoming and engaging start to the new academic year. Through academic sessions, interactive activities, and opportunities to connect with the wider SOE community, students took their first steps towards becoming active members of the School.
