EduTalk: Challenges of Development in Remote Societies of Pakistan: Educational Development and the Role Played by the Aga Khan Development Network

On 22nd October, 2021, the LUMS Syed Ahsan Ali and Syed Maratib Ali School of Education, as part of its EduTalk series conducted a session titled “Challenges of Development in Remote Societies of Pakistan: Educational Development and the Role Played by the Aga Khan Development Network.” The session hosted by Dr. Gulab Khan, Assistant Professor at SOE, invited Dr. Sadruddin Pardhan, Special Advisor to Provost of Aga Khan University. Dr. Pardhan has been associated with AKU-IED since its inception in July 1993 and has held senior faculty as well as management positions at AKU-IED. His major contributions include setting up the academic programmes and management systems; developing partnerships with various governments, international donors and universities; and representing the Aga Khan University at national and international forums.

The talk focused on the development work of AKDN in Northern Pakistan (Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral). Dr. Pardhan further elaborated on how concerted efforts and investments led to phenomenal improvement in the quality of education and literacy in GBC: in particular how the role of community on ground, AKDN agencies, support from funding partners and governments, collectively contributed to achieving major success.
