On January 15th and 16th, LUMS held the Convocation ceremony for the graduating batch of 2020 and 2021. It was a joyous occasion for not only the families of the graduating students but also the respective schools with which the students had their long-term association. Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice Chancellor LUMS, while talking about the resilience of the student body despite many hardships, said: “We are proud of our graduates. You have been through so much, perhaps the most from any previous cohort.”
The LUMS Syed Ahsan Ali and Syed Maratib Ali School of Education welcomed back the students from the Class of 2020 and 2021. Dr. Faisal Bari, Dean School of Education, while congratulating the students said: “LUMS is your home. It is and it will always be. You can come back anytime you want to. Now we look towards you for ways of creating a new country and passing it on to coming generations.” Dr. Tahir Andrabi, The Inaugural Dean of School of Education, while addressing the students said: “You are one of the first classes that we recruited. You are a group of talented and hardworking students. You stayed together and handled this period with tremendous grace and courage. You really came through with flying colors.” Jannat Karim Khan from Class of 2020 and Fatima Umar from Class of 2021 received NMF Gold Medal for first position in MPhil ELM programme, while Waqas Manzoor from Class of 2020 and Sehrish Mustansar from Class of 2021 received Shaila and Tahir Andrabi Leadership and Service Award.
Both the days ended with students revisiting their memories at a place which they call home and making new ones with their loved ones on achieving this milestone.
