Professor Mohammad Waseem did his Ph.D. from School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) University of London. His professional appointments include Wadham College Oxford, SOAS London and Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad. He was Pakistan Chair at St. Antony's College Oxford (1995–1999). He has conducted research on ethnic, constitutional, electoral, federal, religious, sectarian, military and militant politics of Pakistan. His books include Political Conflict in Pakistan (Hurst, 2021), Democratization in Pakistan: A Study of the 2002 Elections (Oxford University Press, 2006) Politics and the State in Pakistan (QAU,1989) and The 1993 Elections in Pakistan (Vanguard, 1994). He has published articles in Commonwealth and Comparative Politics, Arab Law Quarterly, South Asian History and Culture, Contemporary South Asia, International Journal of Multicultural Societies, Diogenes, Economic and Political Weekly and Asian Survey, among others.

Professor Waseem has been on the advisory boards of the following international academic journals: Ethnicities Bristol, Contemporary South Asia, Bradford and International Studies New Delhi. Currently, he is a member of the advisory board of Asian Affairs.
Professor Waseem is the Chairman of Trust for Development and Education of Democracy (TDEA) Islamabad, Pakistan.
