I am currently a PhD student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Math, Science and Learning Technologies. The opportunities that SOE provided helped me develop research skills and lay the foundation for my contributions to academia. Now I am continuing to research robotics, cognition and computational thinking during my doctorate, all of which is an extension of my work during the ELM MPhil.
SOE’s exposure gave me the right skills to pursue my passion of working with the government agency like Programme Monitoring and Implementation Unit (PMIU). At PMIU, I work with large datasets and MPhil ELM courses like Applied Data Analysis and Impact Evaluation have helped me immensely in my job.
Being the Virtual College Manager at TCF. My role is to lead a team to design and execute virtual college for TCF students spread all over Pakistan. SOE has prepared me well for my professional journey in a management role specifically in the context of Pakistan’s education sector.
Being first of its kind as a Reggio inspired multi-grade school following a PBL approach, I am one of the core team members leading the Early Years. At Leo’s Workshop, I devise the school policy, create the curriculum document, plan and prepare personalized learning plans and differentiated lessons in a multi-grade setting. My work also includes facilitating the learners to expand their curiosity, creativity and critical thinking. Through SOE’s career placement program, I was able to find the employer which was the right fit for my career aspirations.
I closely work with the directors of LLI in facilitating and co-developing the opportunities for student-faculty/staff collaboration to promote student learning and engaged teaching at LUMS. My work also involves Research, Program Development, and Mentoring the students.
My favorite part of this job is that I get a lot of creative space in my dynamic role at LLI, and every day is a new challenge. Last but not the least, I work with an amazing team that helps me grow personally as well as professionally. The MPhil ELM courses at SOE have played a crucial role in me excelling in my professional role.
When I came to LUMS in 2019 for an MOU signing, I visited SOE. Although I wanted to work for another year, the sense of a strong community and the top-notch faculty enticed me to apply. One semester down the lane, the journey has been nothing short of a moral epiphany.
If you see education as a career field and want to redefine its definition, and if you also wish to contribute to this field meaningfully, SOE is the place to be. I joined the program with these intentions and so far, it has challenged me on all fronts from the assumptions I held to how I view my own abilities; it has forced me to start the process of rewiring the brain. The experience thus far has been extremely enriching and I leave each class with a completely fresh perspective.
I joined the MPhil program at SOE to gain an interdisciplinary training to work as an educationist in Pakistan. The diverse set of skills that SOE has equipped me with thus far have given me confidence as an academic and researcher.
The program has helped in transforming me in multiple ways; I believe it has helped me grow as an individual. The diversity at SOE gives one the chance to learn from the experiences of others. It also provides one with a comprehensive understanding of the current dynamics and challenges of the education landscape in Pakistan.
The MPhil ELM provides an in-depth exploration of policy issues affecting education in Pakistan. This program gave me an insight on how to position myself to meet current and future challenges and gain knowledge and skills to lead in the face of these challenges.
Being a part of SOE is an experience unlike any other. The environment has helped us foster strong partnerships and relationships with our peers and faculty members. The academic rigor has opened doors in our minds that we were not even aware of. My passion to contribute towards reforming the education system in Pakistan is more than ever before.
