Monday, March 13, 2017

The Research on Improving Systems of Education (RISE) is a large scale, multi-country research programme that seeks to examine the issues surrounding improving education systems to provide better learning in developing countries.

Dr. Tahir Andrabi and Dr. Mariam Chughtai attended the RISE conference at Oxford University, in March 2017, in London, UK. They presented the LUMS SOE to the Intellectual Leadership Team (ILT) and the Country Research Teams (CRT) for RISE, representing Ethiopia, India, Tanzania and Vietnam. Dr. Andrabi and Dr. Chughtai achieved the following two outcomes:

1. Guidance on next steps – the SOE team received personalized guidance from the COO of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government on how to set up intensive partnerships programmes. Faculty from US and UK universities working on education present also helped guide next steps and long term vision for the school.

2. Development of LUMS SOE curriculum – Dr. Andrabi and Dr. Chughtai met with Dr. Mark Moore who is one of the main developers of the Harvard Doctorate in Education Leadership programme. The RISE platform enabled the SOE team to engage with highly accomplished experts to discuss the SOE curriculum and ensure that it remains relevant and current.
